About Terrigal

Terrigal sits about 15 kilometres from Gosford between Wamberal and North Avoca.  The town is characterised by a row of stately Norfolk Island pines that define the beachfront esplanade, situated at the southern end of a stunning 4km beach.

A part of the beauty of Terrigal is the drive along the Norfolk Pine lined, Ocean View Drive as you head past Wamberal Lagoon and see the beauty of the Pacific Ocean panorama opening up in front of you.

Terrigal is well known for its food and entertainment with probably the best variety available anywhere on the coast. Trendy and 'beachy' shops will tempt you with a bit of everything. Even the nights are covered with dinner shows, nightclubs and a selection of clubs providing a great range of entertainment.

The impressive Skillion rises somewhat dramatically toward the ocean where those with a bit of extra energy climb to the lookout at the top to see some of the most impressive views available on the coast. Terrigal also offers beaches that are patrolled throughout summer, fishing, scuba-diving and, frfom April to September, you must join the whale watching.

History of Terrigal

The name 'Terrigal' is derived from Tarrygal, the Aboriginal term for "place of little birds". The name was also given to the first white settlers property in 1826. A sawmill opened in the 1870s supplying timber to Sydney and a dairy industry followed. In the late 1800's tourism became popular boosted by development of the Sydney to Newcastle rail line.
