In the early 1960's the Vales Point Power Station was constructed nearby which was fed by the local coal mines. That led to quite a large increase in the local population leading to the establishment of
Over time, it has become both a pleasant place to live and bring up children as well as seeing many of the foreshore houses become much larger as people relocated there for a better lifestyle from Sydney and Newcastle. Quite a few houses now also provide accommodation to those who want a break from the city in a pleasant, waterfront environment.
Whist it may be a bit isolated, Mannering Park remains close to transport, shopping centres, beaches, bush and mountains that all go to make not only the suburb but the whole area a great place to visit and stay.
