Local Attractions:
Watersports Paddle, sail or motor all forms of boating can be enjoyed on the lake. There are boat ramps at both ends of Macquarie Road. Beaches The scenic drive through Budgewoi takes you to the ocean, where a string of beautiful beaches await. Lakes Beach is patrolled during the summer months and school holidays. Lighthouse at Norah Head A short drive south of the beaches takes you to Norah Head. Half hour tours of the lighthouse can be booked online over the weekends or by appointment on weekdays. www.visitcentralcoast.com.au Whale Watching Whales are often seen off the coast between late May & August. During this annual migration Humpback and Southern Right Whales can be seen from high vantage points. Walks, Bushwalking The Mannering Park foreshore offers pleasant walking and a chance to observe the abundant birdlife. Or, for the more adventurous, a 10 minute drive to Lake Munmorah State Conservation Area will provide a choice of walks. Hunter Valley Less than one hour away is Australia's oldest wine region, where you can enjoy wine tasting and fine dining.
Getting There:
From North Coast Take the F3 Freeway, exiting at Morisset. Turn right at the roundabout onto Hue Hue Road. Rutleys Road is on the Right after about 4kms, then turn left into Vales Road, after Wyee Point. From Sydney Take the F3 Freeway, take the second exit after the Service Centre, which is the East Lake Macquarie (Budgewoi, Swansea, Charlestown) Exit. Continue through the Doyalson intersection. Turn left at the lights at Rutleys Road. Mannering Park is signposted about 2.5km on the Right at Vales Road. From Newcastle Follow the Pacific Hwy south through Belmont and Swansea, until you pass Lake Munmorah. Turn Right at the lights into Rutleys Road, opposite Olivieris Nursery. Mannering Park is signposted about 2.5km on the Right at Vales Road.
