About Bateau Bay

Bateau Bay is located just a few kilometres South of The Entrance beside Shelly Beach featuring beautiful coastline walks.  The area is very popular for fishing from the beach or the coastal rocks.  The rock cliffs are an iconic feature of the Central Coast region as well as the many rocky walks ideal for exploring at low tide.

It's a laidback spot where you can enjoy sandy beaches, boating and fishing.

Crackneck Point Lookout features the perfect Central Coast picnic spot with wonderful views over The Entrance and North to Toukley and Budgewoi.

The Wyrabalong National Park is located in Bateau Bay where you can see goannas, the tawny frogmouth owl and much more wildlife.

Bateau Bay History

Shipwrecked fishermen landed on the coast in 1796 and were fed by the local Aboriginals who then guided them back to Sydney.  The first European settlers settled at Picnic Point in 1828, at the same time as Chinese fishermen who established a base at what is now called Toowoon Bay which is still known to some as Chinamans Bay.  Visitors began to arrive here with the completion of the rail line from Sydney to Newcastle in 1889.

Bateau Bay has some good shopping with plenty of cafes and restaurants and is a great family place.
